In the UAE, a queen size bed takes a 160 x 200 cm mattress and a king size bed takes a 180 x 200 cm mattress. A super king is 200 x 200 cm, a double is usually 140 x 200 cm, a super single is 120 x 200 cm and a single is 90 x 200 cm (sometimes 90 x 190 cm). These are mattress sizes: the bed frame around them is wider and longer, so check the frame's outside size against your room.
UAE bed and mattress sizes
Bed listings and typical (median) frame prices are from the beds we search in October 2026, grouped by the width each shop lists.
| Name in the UAE | Mattress size | Beds listed | Typical frame price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 90 x 190 or 90 x 200 cm | 180, singles and super singles together | AED 2,650 |
| Super single | 120 x 200 cm | Counted with singles | Counted with singles |
| Double | 140 x 200 cm | 260 | AED 3,400 |
| Queen | 160 x 200 cm | 160 | AED 2,300 |
| King | 180 x 200 cm | 260 | AED 2,600 |
| Super king | 200 x 200 cm | 200 | AED 3,950 |
Two things to know about these numbers. Some shops list the size of the mattress a bed takes, others the outside of the frame, so a king frame listed at 200 cm wide may sit in the super king row. And single beds include kids' beds with storage and bunk beds, which is why their typical price is higher than you might expect.
What mattresses cost by size
Fewer shops list mattress sizes in a way we can read, so these samples are smaller. Across the mattresses we search in October 2026:
| Mattress | Mattresses listed | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| 90 x 190 or 90 x 200 cm | 56 | AED 1,150 |
| 120 x 190 or 120 x 200 cm | 48 | AED 850 |
| 160 x 200 cm (queen) | 21 | AED 3,800 |
| 180 x 200 cm (king) | 34 | AED 4,200 |
Prices vary much more within a size than between sizes: a king mattress can cost under AED 2,000 or over AED 13,000. See all mattresses to compare.
UAE sizes versus UK, US and European sizes
The UAE mostly follows European mattress sizes, but the names don't always match what newcomers know. This matters if you ship a bed or bring bedding with you.
| Name | UAE | UK | US |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double | 140 x 200 cm | 135 x 190 cm | 137 x 191 cm (full) |
| Queen | 160 x 200 cm | Not a standard UK size | 152 x 203 cm |
| King | 180 x 200 cm | 150 x 200 cm | 193 x 203 cm |
| Super king | 200 x 200 cm | 180 x 200 cm | Not used |
So UK super king sheets fit a UAE king bed, while UK king sheets are 10 cm too narrow even for a UAE queen. US fitted sheets are usually a few centimetres off in both directions.
Which bed size fits your room
Leave room to walk
Allow about 60 to 70 cm between the bed and the walls or wardrobe on the sides you use, and more at the foot if a wardrobe door opens there. A king frame is often 190 to 200 cm wide and 210 to 220 cm long, so in a bedroom 3.2 m wide, a king bed leaves about 60 cm on each side.
Check the wardrobe doors
Hinged wardrobe doors need about 50 to 60 cm to open. If the bed is close, a sliding-door wardrobe or a smaller bed may work better.
Think about storage
In a small bedroom, a bed with storage (drawers or a lift-up base) holds bedding and suitcases that would otherwise need a wardrobe.
How to measure for a new bed
- Measure the room wall to wall in both directions, below any skirting.
- Mark the frame's outside size on the floor with tape and walk round it.
- Note sockets, air-conditioning vents and windows the headboard might cover.
- Measure the lift, doors and corridor: headboards and one-piece bases are the largest parts.
Before you buy a frame, find the size of the mattress it takes in the listing, not just the frame size. A 180 x 200 cm mattress won't fit a frame made for 180 x 190 cm.
