A rectangular dining table about 120 to 140 cm long seats four, 160 to 180 cm seats six and 200 to 240 cm seats eight, at a width of about 80 to 100 cm. A round table 100 to 120 cm across seats four, and 140 to 150 cm seats six. Allow about 90 cm between the table edge and the wall so chairs can be pulled out. Across the dining tables we search in the UAE (October 2026), the typical rectangular table is 200 x 100 cm and the typical round table is 120 cm across.
Dining table sizes for 4, 6 and 8
The usual rule is about 60 cm of table edge per person. Typical widths and prices are from the tables we search that list both their length and width, in October 2026.
| Table length | Usually seats | Tables listed | Typical width | Typical price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 140 cm | 2 to 4 | 64 | 80 cm | AED 2,800 |
| 140 to 179 cm | 4 to 6 | 40 | 90 cm | AED 5,600 |

| 220 cm or more | 8 or more | 114 | 100 cm | AED 9,700 |
Long tables are common in the UAE: more than a third of the non-round tables we search that list a length are 220 cm or longer, made for family dinners and guests. If you have a smaller flat, browse small dining tables (up to 120 cm).

How big a room you need
Add about 90 cm on every side where people sit, so chairs can be pulled out and someone can walk behind. Where a side is against a wall or a bench, 60 cm is enough.
| Table | Room needed (seats on all sides) |
|---|---|
| 120 x 80 cm | About 300 x 260 cm |
| 160 x 90 cm | About 340 x 270 cm |
| 200 x 100 cm | About 380 x 280 cm |
| Round, 120 cm | About 300 x 300 cm |
Chairs, height and legs
Chair width
The typical dining chair we search is about 54 cm wide. Three of them need about 165 cm of table edge with a little space between, so a 160 cm table seats three a side only if the chairs are narrow.
Table height
Most dining tables are 74 to 76 cm high, with a seat height of about 45 to 48 cm. Check this if you mix a table and chairs from different shops: you want about 30 cm between the seat and the underside of the tabletop.
Legs and bases
Four corner legs give the most knee room at the sides; a central pedestal is easier when you squeeze in an extra chair. On a long table, check whether a middle leg gets in the way.
Extendable tables
An extendable table is useful if you host now and then but live in a small flat. Check its length when closed and when open, and whether the leaf is stored inside the table. Browse extendable dining tables.
Materials
Wood, marble and travertine are the most common tabletop materials in the tables we search. Stone is heavy and can stain: check the base, the sealing and how it gets up to your floor. See marble dining tables.
Before you choose, set the table's size on the floor with masking tape, put your chairs round it and pull one out. If it hits the wall or the sofa, go down a size.
About half of the dining tables we search list their size. Set the length your room can take on dining tables and compare dining chairs from 17 shops.
