For a balcony or garden in the UAE, choose frames that cope with strong sun and humid, salty air (powder-coated aluminium, teak or synthetic rattan), quick-drying outdoor fabrics with covers, and pieces small enough to leave a clear walkway. In October 2026 the shops we search listed about 1,260 outdoor pieces from 17 shops, and the typical (median) piece cost about AED 1,900. The cooler months, October to April, are when balconies get used, so that is when most people shop.
What outdoor furniture costs
Typical prices across the outdoor furniture we search, October 2026:
| Piece | Pieces listed | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor sofas | 126 | AED 6,250 |
| Outdoor armchairs | 120 | AED 2,450 |
| Outdoor coffee tables | 86 | AED 3,450 |
| Outdoor dining tables | 84 | AED 5,900 |
| Outdoor dining chairs | 82 | AED 1,050 |
Four shops list most of it: Homekode (about 350 pieces), Ebarza (about 340), IKEA UAE (about 210) and Loom Collection (about 190). The rest have fewer than 30 each.
Materials that last in UAE weather
Summer sun, heat above 45 °C, humidity on the coast and fine sand all wear outdoor furniture. This is how the main materials compare, with what we see in the shops we search:
| Material | Pieces listed | Typical price | In UAE weather |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal | 350 | AED 1,950 | Aluminium doesn't rust; steel needs a good coating near the sea |
| Teak | 110 | AED 4,350 | Weathers to silver grey; oil it once or twice a year to keep the colour |
| Rattan | 90 | AED 1,900 | Synthetic rattan suits open balconies; natural rattan only under cover |
| Stone tabletops | 150 | AED 2,200 | Heavy and stable in wind; can get hot in direct sun |
Listings often say only "metal" or "rattan", so ask the shop whether a frame is aluminium or steel and whether rattan is synthetic before you buy.
Fabrics and cushions
Outdoor fabrics that are dyed through (often sold as solution-dyed acrylic or olefin) fade less in strong sun. Quick-dry foam stops cushions holding water after cleaning. In summer and during sandstorms, store cushions indoors or under a fitted cover.
Colour and heat
Dark metal and dark stone get hot enough in summer sun to be uncomfortable to touch. Light colours and wood stay cooler.
Sizing a balcony
About half of the outdoor pieces we search list their size, so measure before you look.
- Measure the balcony's depth from the glass door to the railing, and the length.
- Leave at least 60 cm to walk past furniture, and room for the door to slide or open.
- On a narrow balcony (under about 150 cm deep), two chairs and a small round table usually fit better than a sofa.
- Check the way in: outdoor sofas go through the flat and the lift like any other sofa.
Wind on high floors
Balconies on high floors can be very windy. Choose heavier pieces, keep lightweight chairs and cushions away from the railing, and fold parasols when you are not there.
Building rules
Many towers and communities have rules for balconies, such as what may be visible above the railing or whether you can fix anything to walls. Check with your building management before you buy anything large.
Gardens and villa terraces
In a garden, sand and irrigation water are the main wear. Put furniture on paving or decking rather than grass, raise feet off wet ground and choose tables with drainage holes in the tabletop if they will stand in the rain. Shade matters more than material: furniture under a pergola or awning lasts far longer than furniture in full sun.
Buy covers at the same time as the furniture, sized to fit. A fitted cover for the summer months does more to make outdoor furniture last than any material choice.
