Across the sofas we search in the UAE (October 2026), a typical 2 seater sofa is about 170 cm wide, a typical 3 seater about 240 cm and a typical 4 seater about 300 cm. Most are 90 to 105 cm deep and about 75 cm high. Sizes vary a lot within each type: half of all 3 seaters are between 220 and 270 cm wide. So the number of seats won't tell you whether a sofa fits. Measure the wall, then compare widths.
Sofa dimensions by number of seats
From sofas in the shops we search that list both their seats and their size, in October 2026. The middle half is the range between the narrowest quarter and the widest quarter.

How many sofas fit your wall?
Only about a third of the sofas we search list their dimensions. Of those that do, this is the share at or under each width:
| Width you have for the sofa | Share of sofas that fit |
|---|---|
| 180 cm | 36% |
| 200 cm | 44% |
| 220 cm | 53% |
| 240 cm | 65% |
Depth matters as much as width in a narrow living room: 45% of sofas with a listed size are 90 cm deep or less. If your space is tight, start with small sofas, which we define as up to 180 cm wide.
How to measure for a sofa
The wall
Measure the wall the sofa will stand against. Take off about 30 cm at each end if the sofa sits between a door and a corner, so it doesn't look squeezed and you can reach the switches. A wall of 260 cm suits a sofa of about 200 to 230 cm.
The room in front
Leave 40 to 45 cm between the sofa and a coffee table, and at least 75 to 90 cm for a walkway behind or beside it. Check the depth with the seat cushions included; some listings give the frame only.
The way in
This is where most delivery problems start. Measure:
- The lift: inside depth, width and height, and the door width. A sofa often travels on its end, so the lift's height and diagonal count.
- Every door on the way, at the narrowest point with the door open.
- The corridor, and any tight corner you have to turn.
A sofa gets through a door if its depth or its height (whichever is smaller) is less than the door's width. Removable legs and arms help; ask the shop.
Seat height and depth
Most sofas we search are 70 to 80 cm high overall. Seat height is usually about 40 to 45 cm, though few listings state it. A deeper seat (60 cm or more) is good for curling up but less easy for older people to get out of. If an armchair sits next to the sofa, compare their seat heights so they look and feel right together.
Mark the sofa's width and depth on the floor with masking tape and leave it for a day. If you keep stepping round it, choose a smaller sofa.
When you know your numbers, set them on the tape-measure sliders on sofas and we show only what fits. Planning a whole flat? See what furnishing a one-bedroom flat costs.
